D'Amis

In Normandie, a house in the grounds of the owners house is called a ‘Maison D’Amis’, or ‘House for Friends.’ Our’s is exactly that - it isn’t for rent, it’s just for friends and relatives to stay in if they wish.

It is just over 30 years old.  On the ground floor there is a kitchen with a hob, washing machine, dryer, fridge, freezer ... (no oven!).  On the first floor there is a very large ‘sejour’ (lounge), an ensuite bedroom, and a balcony, overlooking the swimming pool.

It is a chaumiere (a thatched roof), and has irises and a form of succulent growing along the ridge, which is traditional for this area of Normandie.  In spring and summer traditional pelargoniums are planted in the window boxes and along the front of the balcony.

It has electric heating. There is also a bed-settee in the lounge.

The pool isn’t heated, so unless we have very hardy guests, May to August are the only realistic months for swimming.  It is about 1.5 metres deep, 4 metres wide and 9 metres long. There is also a pergola and barbecue, and most months of the year fresh vegetables available from the garden.
